Intra-Asia trade and investment have increased substantially over the past three decades, leading to stronger economic integration across the region. From 1990 to 2022, the share of intra-Asia trade as a percentage of total trade rose by nearly 25%, compared to a 7% increase for Europe and a 22% decrease for the United States. The deepening of intra-Asia links is poised to yield positive impacts on the region's economy. Moreover, as Asian economies become more closely intertwined, the region's self-reliance is expected to strengthen, reducing its vulnerability to economic and policy cycles of Europe and the U.S. and further amplifying the region's diversification benefits.
