Across Asia, households are becoming smaller, more urban, and increasingly mobile. Despite slowing population growth, the number of households continues to increase, driven by the rise of smaller living arrangements. From 2010 to 2019, single-person households grew by 31% globally, with nearly half of that growth occurring in Asia Pacific. Between 2022 and 2040, single-person households in the region are projected to grow by 78%, significantly outpacing traditional family households. This trend, underpinned by rising individual financial security and independence, is expected to drive demand for more compact living spaces.
